Swim Borders is the swimming programme run by the Borders Sport and leisure Trust. This comprehensive programme encompasses swimming for all, from Adult and Child sessions for babies, to Adult Water Confidence classes for those who haven’t been in the water since their younger years.
For many adults swimming becomes an activity they watch their children or grandchildren take part in without realising they too could be enjoying themselves, whether it be as exercise, to unwind after a busy day or to have fun with the family.
Swim Borders offers a range of “adults only” classes to suit all levels of ability and all adult tuition is supported by the STA award scheme.
Designed for swimmers who have limited experience in the water. This class will help to develop water confidence and teaches skills such as submersion and breathing control. You will learn to float on your front and back and be introduced to the different swimming strokes at a pace whic suits your own ability.
The next step up from building confidence in the water is Swimming Stroke Development. This class focuses on developing front and back crawl and breast stroke to ensure you achieve the most from your swimming technique.
If you are content with your swimming stroke but want to develop yourself further then the Adults Improvers is the class for you. This will help progress not only the stroke but will also imporve stamina and increase distance.
When undertaking exercise in the water there are the benefits of added restraint and increased support. This gives the opportunity to work hard while reducing the chance of injury. Aqautic Exercice Classes are avaiable through Swim Borders.
These classes are available in both shallow and deep water. Shallow water classes are open to all and give an aerobic workout in the water.
Deep water circuits classes are more advanced and buoyancy belts and flotation devices may be used to add extra resistance.
Open to any level of swimmer. Swim Fit is an individual training schedule which will develop fitness, speed or distance. This workout can be carried out during any session.
Borders Sport and leisure is committed to offering opportunities to all, including those with special needs. We have specially trained instructors who offer tuition which is backed by a nationally recognised awards scheme whiche includes the Endeavour and Penguin series.
The Trust also offers a range of training courses both in and out of the water. these include:
